Send a $10 donation by Texting ‘TENT’ to 85944 1.2 million Haitians are in need of emergency shelter capable of withstanding the rainy season, according a U.N. report released yesterday. Hundreds of thousands are still living under bed sheets and tarpaulins either in mass camps or have been relocated back to their demolished properties. Sanitation and disease issues are raising concerns, as rain waters carry garbage and human waste throughout the city. “The unsanitary conditions of these tent villages are severe,” said CHF Photographer Wade Smith, “We shot video of children playing in the same streets – or what’s left of them – that people were using as bathrooms. It was terrible.” The public can help by texting ‘TENT’ to 85944 to send a $10 donation to Children’s Hunger Fund. Text donations will be dedicated to support Children’s Hunger Fund’s tent relief efforts in Haiti. Both tent-relief and unrestricted donations can be made to CHF’s Haiti Relief Fund at www.ChildrensHungerFund.org or by calling 1-800-708-7589. Children’s Hunger Fund has built relationships with churches and organizations in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for more than two years, helping them to meet the needs of suffering children in their communities. The week prior to January’s earthquake, a team from CHF trained Haitian and Dominican churches for relational compassion ministry and the home-delivery of food and aid. The team safely arrived back in the U.S., missing the devastating earthquake by less than 48 hours.
