Volunteers Here and There
Share/Save/Bookmark

In America it is sometimes easy to see service to the poor in terms of “here” and “there”. “Here” we give donations to feed the poor “there”. We volunteer “here” to help them live better “there.” People “here” helping people “there.” But the truth is, many people in developing nations care just as much and work just as hard as we do here to meet the needs of the poor.

CHF’s new Mercy Network® in Rwanda began distributing food throughout poor villages in February. Made up of 4 churches, the Mercy Network serves 88 families with a total of 312 children among them. As this number grows, the tasks involved in food distribution, home visitation, counseling and prayer will become more challenging. This is where the volunteers come in. Rwandan families from within the Mercy Network churches are doing all they can to love their neighbors by volunteering in the food ministry.

Just like we do here at the CHF Distribution Centers in L.A., Chicago, and San Antonio, Rwandan volunteers gather together to sort, repackage, and bag foods for distribution in their own communities. They work hard to help others because they know how difficult it can be to provide for their own families.

Whether they are here or there, CHF is humbled by the love and sacrifice of our individual volunteers. Through their compassion, families around the world are being fed and introduced to the compassionate love of God.
