When Disaster Hits
Fear Strikes Children in the Midst of Tragedy
Natural disasters require a sensitive and timely response. Children’s Hunger Fund is not primarily a disaster response organization, but when tragedy strikes, we can often provide help almost immediately.
United States
America was shocked by the recent disasters that struck here in our own country. A series of tornadoes swept through the country leaving devastation, destruction, and loss of hundreds of lives.
Our desire to aid relief efforts led us to Mission Birmingham, an organization that shares our passion to spread the gospel through practical acts of compassion. CHF supplied resources to help them serve tornado victims in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. We sent a semi-truck full of food, water, and other relief aid. And we’re working to bring supplies to Joplin, Missouri.
But it’s not over. Tornado warnings are spreading across the country. CHF is looking for continued opportunities to serve as the needs arise.
Japan
In March, a terrible earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. Your quick and generous response helped CHF serve victims of the tragedy. When Japan needed you, you were there...
CHF partnered with a church, ministering to a deaf community in the hardest hit area of Sendai. CHF helped them continue serving victims, despite the obstacle of multiple 6.0 aftershocks. Another church partner helped deliver supplies to quake victims and served hot meals to children. For some, it was the only hot meal they had eaten since the disaster. CHF is helping that church send more teams into the Miyagi Prefecture. Yet another church partner is sending groups into Sendai to deliver clothing, water, other vital necessities, and to share the gospel of Christ. CHF is partnering with them to help support future orphan care.
Your support helped disaster victims like Mami. Mami was separated from her youngest daughter in the wake of the earthquake. She was saved by a teacher who held the little girl in her arms. Sadly, the teacher was unable to save another girl who was swept away by the tsunami. Miraculously, Mami and both of her two children survived. Now she is left as their sole provider. CHF partners are helping Mami start a business so she can care for her family.
Pakistan
In July of 2010, terrible flooding displaced millions of Pakistanis. CHF sent school bags, quilts, wheat seed, and other aid. We planned to send only 500,000 meals to help victims of the disaster. We asked for your help and you responded so generously that we provided 1 million meals!
It’s been about a year since this tragedy, but CHF is still receiving new information all the time about how your gifts have impacted the lives of flood victims.
Whether it’s with tornado relief, Japan aid, or Pakistan help, thank you for reaching out in times of need!
