Sometimes Compassion is Dangerous

Visiting Nuevo Laredo, the City You Shouldn’t Go to

Laredo, Texas is a thriving border city, but just cross the bridge into Mexico, it’s like stepping into an entirely different world. The city of Nuevo Laredo is in violent turmoil, and the streets are very dangerous.

In Nuevo Laredo there are often fatal shootings, and most of them happen in the middle of the day. Many parents are scared to let their children go outside. For this reason, one of our church partners changed the time of its Vacation Bible School (VBS). The church held VBS early in the morning and gave parents the option for their children to sleep over at the church the night before VBS.

That same church partner also told us that Nuevo Laredo is so dangerous, many missions groups have stopped visiting. This broke our hearts. If children are willing to attend VBS, and if churches are willing to serve, surely there must be something CHF can do to help!

Our goal is to start a Mercy Network in Nuevo Laredo which will establish relationships with the children and families in the area who desperately need provision, care, and hope! We know it won’t happen overnight, but we are working toward this goal. Please pray for us as we embark on this journey, and pray for the safety of our friends in Nuevo Laredo.
