January can sometimes be a slow month as we ease into the new year, but that's not the case in 2010. In just a few short weeks we have officially launched our Mercy Network in the Caribbean and are now seeing the Lord use those churches in the midst of a disaster. The earthquake in Haiti is in the forefront of our minds and prayers and now our work. Kempiz Hernandez, CHF's International Director overseeing Latin America, will share with us how we can be praying for Haiti during this tragic time.

We are constantly amazed at the Lord's sovereignty as we minister to His church around the world. Just a couple days before the catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti, myself and three other CHF staff returned from a training trip to the Dominican Republic (DR). We trained 12 churches in our Compassion Ministry Essentials Training, and this marked the "official" start of the Mercy Network in the Caribbean. In God's sovereignty, one of our sea containers full of food arrived in the DR last week as part of our Mercy Network launch! This food will now be used to aid the victims of the earthquake.

Today we sent an initial $20,000 wire transfer to purchase food, cooking implements and for transportation. This, along with the food that arrived last week, is the first step toward deeply caring for the victims.

We are so thankful to have trusted relationships in the DR and Haiti in such a tragic time as this. These churches and pastors have such a heart for compassion ministry and for reaching their communities with the Gospel. Please pray with us for the millions of people affected by the earthquake, and for CHF as we mobilize and discern how to most effectively get help into Haiti for God's glory.

Pray for the millions of children and families who have been devastated by the earthquake, that God would draw many to Him through this tragedy.

Pray for CHF's ministry partners and our brothers and sisters in Christ in the region. Pray that God would use them mightily in displaying his grace and love.

Pray for wisdom for CHF as we work out the many logistical details of getting aid into Haiti.
